The word orthopaedic, or orthopedic, is of Greek origin. It means

- Paedia meaning children
Orthopaedics is a branch of medicine that encompasses diseases, injuries, and conditions of the musculoskeletal system - regarding the body's muscles and skeleton, joints, ligaments, nerves
and tendons.
Who treats orthopaedic conditions?
- Primary Care Physician - Who will diagnose & refer to a specialist
- Orthopedic Surgeon - Who can operate and replace or repair afflicted area
- Rheumatologist - Treatment of arthritis and rheumatic diseases that affect joints, muscles, bones, skin, and other tissues
- Occupational Therapist - Coordinates patient care for the condition,
- Physiatrist - Restoring of lost abilities as a result of disease, disorder & injury.
- Podiatrist - Foot care & surgery
- Nurses - Assists Physician
- Physical Therapist - Focuses on the neuromuscular, musculoskeletal, and cardiopulmonary systems affecting the patients fmotion & function. After evaluation they provide treatment for health problems resulting from injury, disease, or overuse, or misuse of muscles and or tendons. They also may assist in recovery and pain managment.
